GENESIS
The beginning. “Genesis” is built from the idea of Creation.
The series brings the figure of Gaia as an essential element capable of generating life. The sculpted women carry their children on their arms, heads and bellies. Mothers who give themselves completely, always pulsing life and surrendering.
Ilka Lemos draws a parallel with the Earth: welcoming and supporting its children who are always draining resources. The artist punctuates the weight and exhaustion contained in maternal relationships, fantasizing the moment in which these women will shake their bodies, throwing their children to the margins.
