THEY SAY IT’S CHRIST

“They say it's Christ” contains symbols that are tied to conventions and notions which appear to be seemingly obvious.

According to Ilka Lemos, the crucified sculptures cry out for help, thus reflecting society’s ills. The title itself instigates doubt. Limiting the works to strictly religious associations reduces the complexity of the issues addressed by the artist.

The sculptures reflect the cruel reality of those who are socially excluded, ignored and dismissed. Ilka questions the way in which we quickly associate images with preconceived ideas, therefore suggesting a constant reassessment of our certainties.
